About Oso Kuma

Oso Kuma is a Japanese-inspired catering company specializing in yakitori, sashimi, and seasonal comfort food.

Founded by Chef Lucas Bear, OSO KUMA blends traditional Japanese grilling techniques with California ingredients to create bold, memorable food for gatherings of all sizes.

From backyard celebrations to corporate events, we aim to energize and enhance social gatherings with a culinary show cooked over live fire.

Our operation is easy on you! Lend us your space and we’ll bring the gear, set up and break down. Just don’t forget your appetite!

About Lucas Bear

Chef Lucas Bear, a Los Angeles native, began his culinary journey at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and gained experience in several fine dining restaurants. When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted his path, he moved into private catering, where he found joy in crafting personalized dining experiences.

A transformative month-long trip through Japan deepened his appreciation for Japanese cuisine and hospitality.
Upon returning home, Lucas connected with Tokyo chefs opening Shirube, an izakaya in Santa Monica.

After training in Tokyo, he spent two years at Shirube, learning how to bring authentic Japanese flavors and techniques to the OSO KUMA experience.
